The Butterfly Catcher

by ITCH Productions

Based on a proposition by Alice Bishop, Des Fleming & Hop Dac and developed in collaboration with Scott Brennan, Michael F. Cahill & Ngaire Dawn Fair

‘What do you really know about the people you work with…’

A dark comedy about the nature of power and the politics of the workplace. Steve doesn’t like change, however when Steve vomits up a giant caterpillar one morning at work, he realises things will never be the same. Bigcorp is rightsizing. Will human resources become human remains?

‘Carves out a sinuous, imaginative and character driven narrative – part sitcom, part psychodrama – from the tedium of working life.’
The Age
‘The performances are playful and poignant, displaying excellent comic timing, physical humour, and lightning shifts of character. Director Alice Bishop keeps the production moving at breakneck pace, without smothering private moments snatched from an impersonal environment’

Production History

Premiering in June 2010, The Butterfly Catcher was ITCH Productions’ third production, and the second developed in collaboration with actors, writer and director. Initial discussion between Des, Alice and Hop took place in August 2009, and in September actors Scott Brennan, Michael F. Cahill and Ngaire Dawn Fair joined us. We spent eight months in development prior to our first performance.
